Code of Practice Train-The-Trainer Workshop 2022

Following the update of the HKAPI Code of Practice at the Annual General Meeting, the Ethics & Compliance Task Force held the Code of Practice Train-the-Trainer Workshop on 22 April 2022 to provide a deep dive into the key changes of the Code and its implications for HKAPI members.

The 20th Edition Code of Practice, revised at the HKAPI Annual General Meeting 2022, will come into effect on 1st August 2022.

About 120 senior management staff, compliance officers, medical colleagues and marketers from 28 member companies joined the online training.  The Ethics & Compliance Task Force (2020-2022) briefed the members on the key changes of the Code, including the Complaint Procedures, differences between Promotional items and Non-Promotional items, Sponsorship and interactions with Patient Organizations, etc. Through interactive polls and Q&A sessions, members had the chance to understand how the Code could serve as a basis for our member companies to make ethical business decisions.

About HKAPI Code of Practice

First drafted in 1971, the HKAPI Code of Practice has been systematically updated in order to be responsive to the expectations of society. The Code and its supplementary guidelines, in accordance with internationally defined standards of good practice, are intended to serve as a basis for our member companies to make ethical decisions in their conduct of professional work and interactions with healthcare professionals and other stakeholders like medical societies and patient organizations. It also serves as a basis for judging formal complaints with respect to our professional ethical standards.

The Code is applicable to all our member companies. We also strongly encourage non-member pharmaceutical companies to comply with the Code and uphold the industry standard to a higher ethical standard and build trust with patients and society.
