Preserving Trust: AI and Data Privacy in Healthcare
On 26 August 2025, the Hong Kong Association of the Pharmaceutical Industry (HKAPI) and Cyberport co-hosted “Preserving Trust: AI and Data Privacy in Healthcare” at Cyberport. The event brought together experts from healthcare, technology, academia, and data governance to explore how Artificial Intelligence (AI) is reshaping healthcare while ensuring patient privacy and public trust.
The programme opened with remarks by Mr. Rocky Cheng, CEO of Cyberport, and Ms. Sabrina Chan, Senior Executive Director of HKAPI, who highlighted the promise of AI in drug discovery, diagnostics, and personalised care, along with the responsibility of safeguarding sensitive data
A Knowledge Circle showcased diverse AI applications, including risk prediction models (Dr. Celine Chui, HKU), diagnostic tools for depression (Dr. Ke Feng Li, Macao Polytechnic University), patient-centred care powered by large language models (Mr. Yuxiang Nie, SmartCare/HKUST), and compliance-driven health data solutions from Ms. Vivienne Wang, Canton Data Exchange, and Mr. Sukyboor Wu, Shenzhen Shangshuwang. Mr. Cecil Wong, HKAPI Ethics & Compliance Working Group, also shared insights on AI’s role in enhancing industry efficiency.
Ms. Joyce Liu, Senior Legal Counsel & Head of Global Affairs and Research, Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data (PCPD), delivered an address on the importance of data privacy in healthcare.
This was followed by a panel discussion, “Do’s and Don’ts: Navigating Industry Hurdles and Innovation Challenges”, moderated by Mr. Alan Chan, Member of the HKAPI Ethics & Compliance Working Group, and featuring:

The event concluded with Dr. Crystal Fok, Director of AI Applications, Cyberport, introducing the upcoming AI Supercomputing Centre and AI Subsidy Scheme, initiatives to further strengthen Hong Kong’s AI ecosystem.
The discussions underscored a shared message: AI will transform healthcare and pharmaceuticals, but its adoption must be guided by responsibility, compliance, and collaboration to preserve patient trust.
